Dates for your Diary

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH – PARISH FAIR

See below for more details.

Monday 10th September 6.00pm – 7.00pm – Confirmation Preparation

Confirmation preparation will begin on 10th September for the Celebration of Confirmation which will take place this year at St Mary’s, Middlewich on Friday 16th November. If you are in the new school year 9 or above and have already made your First Holy Communion then you are invited to attend our preparation sessions. Our first meeting will be at 6.00pm in church and will include introduction information for parents and candidates. A timetable of further meetings will be given out on that day. Notices will be given out at St Nicholas CHS  but if you know of anyone who attends a different school please let them know. Please speak to Fr Simon if you have any questions.

Monday 10th September 7.30pm – 9.00pm – Scripture study and discussion group

Our scripture group will begin again on Monday 10th September. Meetings are usually fortnightly and take place in the presbytery. They offer an informal but informed look at the scripture readings for the following Sunday. Our emphasis is on the meaning of scripture in today’s world. The Word of God invites us into a real relationship and is often deepened by sharing our thoughts and experiences with others. It is a very friendly group and we would love to welcome new members. We look forward to seeing you.

Monday 17th September at 7:30pm – FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PREPARATION PROGRAMME

If you would like your child to receive the sacraments during this year, please come along to our meeting in church.

The meeting will last approximately 30 minutes and you will be given an enrolment form to complete. You will need to know the date of your child’s Baptism. At the meeting parents will be asked to make a £5 donation towards the cost of the book which will be presented to your child. This is for Year 3 children and upwards.

Tuesday 18th September 10:30am – Coffee morning

Our next Coffee morning will be on. Come along and join in the fun – Refreshments, Bingo, Raffle and Bring-and Buy Sale. We would love to see more people supporting these events.

Saturday 20th October – Coach Trip to Blackpool Lights

Price £10 per person. The coach will leave St. Josephs at 11am.

The day will be spent in Blackpool, the Coach returning at 6:30pm with a trip through the Lights.

Money must be paid before the end of September. Please sign up on the clipboard in the porch and place your money in an envelope marked “Blackpool” and hand it in ASAP.

Kerala floods: an SVP appeal

As you’ve probably seen in the media, terrible floods have been taking place in Kerala in southern India.  Hundreds of people have been killed and many more are missing; countless homes have been washed away, and the monsoon season is set to continue until early September. Kerala is the most Christian state in India – it has more churches than any other region. The leading Catholic volunteering charity, the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), is very active there and they are doing great work helping the victims of the flood in local communities. However, they desperately need funds.

Please contribute to the SVP’s Kerala appeal. To donate visit www.svp.org.uk, telephone 020 7703 3030 or send cheques made out to SVP (write ‘Kerala appeal’ on the back) to SVP, Romero House, 55 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7JB.  And please remember our sisters and brothers in Kerala in your prayers.

ST JOSEPH’S GOT TALENT

Calling all our talented young parishioners – after last year’s wonderful display of varied talents by the children of the Parish, we’re going to have another ‘talent fest’ during this year’s end of summer fete. Whatever your talent – comedian, dance, singing, magic, ventriloquism, showcasing your football skills – sign up to perform live on stage.

Performances must be no longer than 2.5 minutes. Everyone will receive a ‘certificate’ for participating. Any music or backing track needs to be pre-recorded (iphone or android can be plugged into sound system). Any equipment (tables, mats etc) need to be brought with you. Sign up sheet in the Porch.

More details will be provided at the end of August.
