As Sacristan I make sure that all the church linens, vestments and objects like the chalices, thurible and holy water containers are cleaned and ready for use.
I purchase and order the consumables needed for the various services. A major part of my duties is the keeping of the Church records and answering queries when they arise. I also attend services like funerals, remembrance masses and assist the celebrant with these by undertaking readings.
I open the church on Sundays and prepare the altar for the celebration of mass.
As a Eucharistic minister I assist the celebrant with the distribution of the Eucharist on Sundays on a rota system or whenever the need arises. I also take communion to those not able to attend church services.
I prepare children who do not attend our school for their First Sacraments and, together with Mrs. Shirley Montgomery and Mrs. Helen Thorpe prepare our school children for those sacraments as well. When the occasion arises I also prepare children for the sacrament of Baptism.
